I (heart) the internet

Every once in a while the internet proves to be worthy of all my affection :) I know I'm totally dependent on it. Not only is it part of my professional livelihood, but recreational and educational needs are met too. But today, I had a delightful surprise.

I got an email from Facebook letting me know Mette Lund wants to add me as a friend. My first thought is spam, even though this rarely happens on facebook and more often I get random friend requests on MySpace. Anyway. The name kinda, sorta, sounds familiar so I check out the picture.

*LIGHT GOES OFF* Oh yeah! I know her! Mette is a foreign exchange student from Denmark when I was a senior in high school. She was really nice/cool. I honestly haven't thought of her much since then so it was great jumping back to the past for a little while.

We've been bouncing emails back and forth today catching up.

I know the youth today will find this hard to believe, but when I was in high school... to keep up with the foreign exchange students, we didn't have email, IM, and the internet just yet... we had to rely on a pen and the postal service. .. so basically, yeah, we lost touch.

I did try to find some of our other exchange students a while back, but I didn't have any luck. Maybe one day they'll find me like Mette did. :)

Gilbert and Swayze in Little House on the Prairie musical

I think I'm going to have to make arrangements to see this...

Little House on the Prairie Musical to Debut at the Guthrie; Zambello Directs
Little House on the Prairie, a new musical based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's popular "Little House on the Prairie" book series, will make its world premiere at the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage in summer 2008....(carry on)

Busy

I've been so busy lately. The kinda busy where you feel like you're doing so many things but nothing is getting accomplished. Friday, Mandy came over and we made some stuff for the Christmas show next weekend. Saturday was Cole's 4th b-day party, and then Sunday we had an ornament party.

Cole's birthday is really tomorrow but Saturday worked better for the festivities. He had an awesome Star Wars cake and got lots-o-toys. We got him a kids digital camera and a preschool learning laptop type thing. It looks a lot like my laptop, and has a full keyboard and mouse attached. Last night he asked me if I wanted him to work with me. (because I was sitting on the couch with my laptop working on freelance) and I told him yes. and he then he says "Okay, I guess I'll work with you" and grabbed his computer and sat next to me. He was mad because his computer makes lots of noises and mine doesn't :)

In other news...
I'm working the polls tomorrow on Election Day. I'm the "Judge" which means I have to set the voting machine before each person votes, give them an over view on how to use an electronic voting machine (if needed), and at the end of the day print out the tallies from the machines. The only downside to all of this is being there by 5 a.m. which is rough for me. I'm a night owl.
Here's some rules... no one can be in the voting room with campaign stuff in plain site. Tshirts have to be covered, hats taken off. Buttons removed. And the words republican or democrat cannot be spoken. at all. So when I ask/tell the voter "If you would like to vote a straight ticket" I must say "the choices are on the left" or if someone says "I want to vote Democrat" then all I can say is "the straight ticket choices are on the left".

I'll be paid $95 for the day and includes two meals/refreshments.
All I got to say is, it's better inside, than outside in the rain/cold passing out pencils and cards. I was doing that last year and it was a LOOONNGG day.

What time is it?

Anyone else get the feeling that the Friday after Halloween is becoming "Black Friday". I can't tell you how many Christmas sales commercials I've seen today PLUS the stuff in the mail.

CRAZY

I've heard sales are way down in a lot of stores so all the major retailers will be pushing VERY early sales this year. Like even earlier than what they normally do.

Why don't they try "sales" at the pump to rejuvenate retail shopping?! If I wasn't putting so much money in the tank, perhaps I'd buy a little more in the stores...

Who am I kiddin? I'll still shop like normal. I'll just have to be a little more aggressive in my "deal" searching.
