Last weekend Mandy and I went to Ft. Campbell, KY army base and set up our ornament booth in their PX Mall. It was an experience!
The base is huge. it's a city in a city. I got lost.
The mall was sorta like Washington Square mall. A mall, but smaller. It had small specialty type shops in the front part, then two major entrances to their PX store. Which I would compare to a Macy's type of Walmart. All the variety of products as a walmart (from deoderant to electronics, to camping goods) but on a high-end quality scale. It had a hallmark section, a Clinique, Lancome, etc. makeup section. all types of clothing. then furniture. the prices were about the same as a walmart, but nicer stuff and it's exclusive to soldiers, spouses and retired Army.
We did okay. I don't know if we'll go back. but it was definately a learning experience. What I thought was cool about the place is that it's right on the Kentucky/Tennessee border. So your house could half-way be sitting in KY, and the other half in TN. Plus, this is the home of the 101st Airborne division. The only air-assault division in the world. This is the same division Band of Brothers is based on.
They named several of their streets after the European battles.. hence, Bastogne Ave. I think that's cool.
Mandy was totally enthralled by the place.
OMG. and there HAS to be something in the water. Every other girl was preggers. I'm not kidding. I've never seen so many pregnant women in MY LIFE. I later found out this was the place Oprah visited and threw a HUGE baby shower for 640 pregnant wives of soldiers. hella crazy.
I got a little lost on the way home. but we managed. I still can't figure out where I went wrong on the route. It's not a pleasant drive. Kentucky can be so difficult to navigate. there's about 50 different ways to get to the same place. and they're all twisty, hilly roads...that are hard to see in the dark, and rain, and flash flooding.. oh my!
Ft. Campbell is expecting another deployment the day after Christmas next week.
Stay safe!
