So today's procedure was to do a heart cath. make sure there were no blockages and see if her heart could withstand the main secondary surgery--which is to go in and "zap", for lack of a better term, the problem areas of the heart. This fixes the condition and everything is fine after that.
Me and Lucy drove up this morning. She made it through the first phase great--so they scheduled the second part for a few hours later. Only to later find out they canceled it due to scheduling conflicts with the surgeon. She was disappointed because she wanted it all over and done with.
It's pretty risky surgery, but I feel confident everything will go smoothly for her.
She's (Beth) a very dear friend who's almost old enough to be my mother. I met her a couple years ago on Lucy's campaign trail and now I can't imagine her not in my life. It's funny how people come in and out of your life like that. Just when you think you've made all your BFF's, someone walks in and becomes someone special to you.
I was partly there for Beth, and partly there for Lucy. This is a really bad time of year for her. We're approaching 4 years since Matt was killed. (day after Cole's 4th b-day) So she's been edgy because of the anniversary, and then the risky surgery for Beth has her stressed out and paranoid about losing another loved-one.
Moving on to lighter subjects...
While in the waiting room, Lucy showed me the new O-List for the November issue of Oprah Magazine. She was proud to show me the picture she got me for my birthday made Oprah's list! Alas, she found something before Oprah had a chance to suggest it! But what caught my eye on the page were these rings!!! Since the kids were born I've been looking for something like this. I HATE traditional "mothers" rings with birthstones. For one thing, Cole's birthstone color is Orange and I hate that on jewelry, and another thing the ring styling is not my style. I love, love, love silver/white gold. That's all I wear. I even love wearing a plain simple silver band. So when I saw this, my jaw hit the floor. It's two rings intertwined with the kid's names imprinted. This is like a collision of two worlds.. Silver stylish bands that I love, and a fashion statement of "I'm a mom, and these are my kids". I just ordered my set. :) Some might think they're a little pricey, but I've been looking for something like this for so long. It's worth it to me. Merry Christmas ;)
